Citronella is native to the southeastern part of Asia and the perenniual tropical grass, is grown mainly in Sri Lanka, India, Burma, Indonesia, and Java. The leaves have been used for their fragrence as well as an excellent insect repellent. The Chinese use the leaves more specifically for rheumatism. Other uses have included fevers, intestinal parasites, as well as digestive and menstrual problems. The actions of citronella include antiseptic, antibacterial, antidepressant, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, deodorant, diaphoretic, diuretic, emmenagogue, febrifuge, fungicidal, insecticide, parasiticide, stimulant, stomachic, tonic, and vermifuge.
SUGGESTED USAGE
For external use only. Put 5 drops in 1 cup of water. Apply with a spray bottle as an insect repellent. May also be used in paraffin wax as an insect repellent for outdoor use. Shake well. Store in cool, dark place. Keep out of reach of children.
