Known from the times of antiquity, Cinnamon is a highly prized spice whose influence was so great that it was a gift fit for monarchs and other great rulers. Coming from an evergreen tree that is a native to Sri Lanka, this spice was imported from China to Egypt as early as 2000 BC as well as mentioned in the Bible (Exodus 30:23) where Moses is commanded to use both sweet Cinnamon and Cassia in the holy annointing oil and (Proverbs 7:17-18) where a lover's bed is perfumed with Myrrh, Aloe and Cinnamon. Plus in the Song of Solomon (Chapter 4, Verse 14) there is a song describing his beloved's beauty, her garments smelling like Cinnamon "like the smell of Lebanon".
