How It Works
The ingredients in Earth's Promise Orange contain vitamins, minerals, and key compounds that have been shown in scientific research to support major body systems.† They are also high in antioxidant activity to help reduce the effects of oxidative stress. Typically excellent sources of fiber, the ingredients in earth's promise are also naturally low in fat and sugar and contain no cholesterol.
While there are many ingredients that contribute to the overall nutrient value in Earth's Promise Orange, there are five main nutrients provided: beta-carotene, vitamin C, potassium, lutein, lycopene and fiber.
Beta-Carotene: This well-known and heavily researched carotenoid is converted by the body into vitamin A. It is present in a variety of foods, including papaya, summer squash, and of course, carrots. In a scientific study, beta-carotene supported the retention of healthy cholesterol and triglyceride levels within normal limits. Carotenoids, including beta-carotene and lycopene (also a featured nutrient in Earth's Promise Orange) are thought to regulate the immune response. In fact, beta-carotene has been studied for its ability to enhance natural killer cell activity.† And, in another scientific study, beta-carotene from carrots significantly increased antioxidant levels.
Vitamin C is one of the best-known vitamins, especially for its support of immune health. Less well-known, however, is the role that vitamin C has in supporting healthy joints and connective tissue.
Vitamin C is commonly found in many fruit and vegetable sources, including papaya, squash, apricots and most famously, oranges. The amount of vitamin C found in one serving of Earth's Promise Orange is equivalent the level found in one orange.
Potassium: Many American diets are deficient in potassium. However, intake of potassium from fruits and vegetables may provide a partial answer. Fruits rich in potassium include bananas, oranges and apricots.
Clinical studies have found that high intakes of potassium support normal blood pressure already within normal limits, and support healthy bone density. The potassium found in Earth's Promise Orange is equal to that found in 2 apricots.
Lutein is deposited in high concentrations in the macular region of the retina. It is believed that this antioxidant plays an important supportive role in eye health by supporting macular pigment development. Macular pigment absorbs ultraviolet radiation from the sun, among other functions.
In scientific studies, lutein also supported arterial health.
Lycopene is a potent antixodiant, providing well established support for cardiovascular, prostate, immune and eye health. Lycopene is a carotenoid mostly associated with tomatoes. The amount of lycopene found in Earth's Promise Orange is equivalent to that found in one tomato.
Fiber: Dietary guidelines recommend a range of 21 to 38 grams of fiber per day. However, given the prevalence of refined foods in the typical modern diet, most Americans eat an average of 10 to 15 grams daily. The inulin and FOS blend, guar gum and fruit and vegetable ingredients in Earth's Promise Orange provide 5 grams of fiber per serving—20% of the daily recommended value.
Inulin fiber acts as a prebiotic in the digestive tract, promoting bile excretion and helping foster a healthy climate for probiotic beneficial bacteria. It also aids in the absorption of minerals such as calcium, magnesium and zinc.
Soluble and insoluble fiber from inulin also supports healthy digestion and colon function, by safely absorbing and eliminating toxins.
Fiber promotes bowel movements and modulates gastric and intestinal physiology. Although human digestive juices can't digest fiber, intestinal flora that normally reside within the colon utilize fiber as a medium for microbial fermentation, resulting in the synthesis of vitamin K and biotin, and the formation of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA). The SCFA that are produced can be absorbed and used for energy by the mucosa of the colon to maintain the health of colon epithelial cells. The effects of SCFA increase fecal matter bulk by supporting a healthier intestinal environment. Fiber has been demonstrated in numerous clinical studies to provide support of gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, immune, and endocrine function health. The total amount of fiber found in one serving of Earth's Promise Orange is equivalent to that of one bowl of oatmeal.
In addition to its ability to support the retention of healthy cholesterol levels already within normal limits, guar gum also plays a part in regulating blood glucose levels already within normal limits. In a clinical trial, guar gum significantly supported blood glucose levels compared with controls.
The inulin and fructooligosaccarides in Earth's Promise Orange also support calcium absorption, a crucial factor in maintaining healthy bone density.
