Liske, E. (Journal of Women's Health & Gender Based Medicine, 11:2, 2002)
This double-blind, controlled, randomized dose comparison safety study with Remifemin Menopause involved 152 women, aged 42 to 60 years old. The 6-month study evaluated the efficacy and tolerability by utilizing the following parameters: Kupperman Menopause Index, Self-Rating Depression Scale, a global assessment of tolerability, routine hematology, and biochemical tests. Furthermore, the effect on vaginal cytology and gynecologically relevant hormones, and adverse events was determined.
Key findings:- Significant reduction of index score and individual symptoms after 2 weeks, with more pronounced effect after 12 weeks
- After 12 weeks, up to 70% reduction of symptoms (Kupperman Index < 15)
- No effect on gynecologically relevant hormone levels, including estradiol, luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, prolactin, or sex hormone-binding globulin
