A member of the mint species, Spearmint is native to much of Europe and southwest Asia despite its indigenous range is uncertain due its early extensive cultivation, growing and flourishing in wet soils in nearly all temperate climates. Its leaves (which loses their aroma once the Spearmint plant’s flowers bloom) can be used whole, chopped, dried, ground, frozen as well as preserved in salt, sugar syrup, alcohol, or oil; Spearmint is a fragrant minty ingredient in several mixed drinks (such as Mojito and Mint Julep), a favorite flavoring for toothpaste and confectionery, and is sometimes added to shampoos and soaps.
In herbalism, Spearmint becomes a tasty tea for treating stomach aches by steeping the leaves in a cup of hot water. Both Spearmint and Spearmint Essential Oil is calming, relaxing, and uplifting as well as antibacterial and antifungal. Spearmint Essential Oil is applied to treat mental fatigue and depression, headaches, stomach aches, inhalation for respiratory infections as well as tropical applications for skin infections. You can even use this essential oil as an insecticide!
SUGGESTED USAGEAdd some drops of Spearmint Essential Oil and a drop or two drops of Lime Essential Oil or Ginger Essential Oil together to help stimulate your appetite.
If you want to make your own Mint Breath Freshener, just mix together 10 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil, 10 drops of Spearmint Essential Oil, 100 milliliters of Pure Water, and a teaspoon of Honey in a little spray bottle that you can use to spray this blend in your mouth, shake the bottle up and spray in your mouth to freshen up your breath.
To make a massage oil for those sore, achy limbs, just add 5 drops of Grapefruit Essential Oil, 5 drops of Bulgarian Rose Essential Oil, 3 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil, 2 drops of Spearmint Essential Oil, and 15 milliliters of Jojoba Oil together to make that special massage oil.
Caution: Do not take this essential oil if you are pregnant because it is an emenagogue (which can cause you to bleed if you have problems with your periods).
